Underground
The Underground is Harbor of Hope's student ministry. We work with students from 6th-12th grade. Our goal is to bring students in from a life away from Christ, build them up to maturity in Christ, and send them out to live for him in their very secular and materialistic world. Does that sound too lofty? We feel that with the right team and right content these goals are possible. We use a highly relational approach with studnets, giving them a voice and a place to connect, a place to be yourself and a place to speak your mind. At the same time we are grounded in the truth of the Word of God and encourage our students strongly to live out their faith in very practical ways.
We have three opportunities for students to connect with the Underground. First of all we meet every Sunday morning from 9:30-10:30 in the multi-purpose room at HOH. Secondly we meet every Thursday night for crazy games, hanging out, prayer, and Bible study. Finally, we do events each month for our students to simply have fun!
We understand that teenagers are going thorugh so many transitions in life and they need to be grounded in order to make decisions and choices. The Underground is an attempt to be that foundation. Everybody needs a Third Place to connect. Students have home and school but that Third Place to make friends and learn about Christ is the Underground! By making other friends who are on the same journey our hope is that students will be able to have life and life to the full even during the turbulent years of Middle and High School.
